The Brownstown High School FFA program is back after being absent at the school for many years. With it and the agriculture program both returning this school year, new Ag teacher and FFA advisor Cassie Perrin and her students have used the first two months of the year to do as much as possible despite some COVID restrictions and being a new startup again. Recently, the students who are a part of FFA were able to have a special ceremony in which students officially received their blue FFA jacket. Perrin says she had one student who had previously received a jacket when with the St. Elmo-Brownstown FFA program prior to this year, but for the rest, it was their first opportunity to receive a jacket.
Now as they proceed forward, Perrin said a major focus of the program is to build ties with and really integrate themselves into the community.
The Ag and FFA programs have also been keeping busy putting together various judging teams as well as using their newly learned skills to build up their classroom with welding booths and even caring for chickens that they will use as part of an agriculture business project.
