A Vandalia man found guilty of one count of aggravated domestic battery following a bench trial in June was sentenced in Fayette County Court on Wednesday afternoon. 51-year old Gregory Hill was convicted of aggravated domestic battery after an August 19, 2017 incident in which Hill struck his wife Heather Hill multiple times in the neck area while she was in a prone position on the floor. The strikes coming from Gregory Hill’s knee or foot caused Heather Hill to be paralyzed after her spinal cord was transected and fractures occurred in the C5 and C6 vertebrae. Gregory Hill was sentenced by Judge Kevin Parker to the maximum possible penalty for the Class 2 felony count of 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Hill will get credit for 1,125 days served in the Fayette County Jail or 3 years and 29 days. With 85% of the 7 year sentence having to be served and the credit for time served, Hill will serve approximately 2 years and 10.5 months in IDOC.
