(Undated) — Today is the summer solstice, which marks the first official day of summer. The summer solstice occurs every year between June 20th and June 22nd in the Northern Hemisphere when the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer. The summer solstice is always the longest day of the year, but this year, people will have the opportunity to see a weather phenomenon called “electric blue clouds.” This type of cloud is only visible a few weeks out of the year and they are much higher than normal clouds, forming around 50 miles above Earth’s surface.
For our Time Zone, Summer officially begins at 4:43 this afternoon. This is also the “longest day of the year” or the day with the most sunlight. Sunrise this morning was at 5:31 am with sunset at 8:25 pm. The amount daylight each day will now slowly go down until our “shortest day of the year” on December 21st, the first day of winter.
