The Vandalia Historical Society, with help from Historians and an anonymous donor, have recently acquired two maps from the early 1800’s of the area. And, one of the maps seems to help answer the question about the where the name came from for the City of Vandalia. Dale Timmermann talks about the two maps.
And, Timmermann says the Isaac Hill map seems to help answer the question about where the name for the City of Vandalia came from.
The maps, which are from the time period of 1809-1811, are now in the possession of the Vandalia Historical Society. Timmermann says he will be getting with experts to figure out the best way to preserve the maps, which have been kept protected over the years placed between two pieces of plexiglass.
