The Vandalia Fire Department was called on midday on Thursday to handle a garage fire. Vandalia Fire Chief Mark Meadows says they were paged out to the garage fire at 515 West Fillmore Street at 11:44 on Thursday morning. Chief Meadows says that, upon arrival, they had a fully involved garage fire with the house nearby to the east. Chief Meadows says there was some damage to the house siding, but did not ignite the house itself. He says they were on the scene for about 2 hours with about 12 firefighters present. The property is owned by Gary Graumenz, Junior.
