Legislation banning single-use plastics, polystyrene advancing at Illinois Statehouse

The move to restrict single-use plastics and styrofoam containers in Illinois continues.  One measure would prohibit stores or food service businesses from providing single-use plastic bags to customers.  Emily Kowalski is the outreach and engagement manager for Environment Illinois.

Another measure creates the Disposable Food Service Container Act, which is aimed at banning polystyrene foam containers.  State Senator Laura Fine says companies will have ample time to adjust.

The legislation passed out of committee and is headed to the Senate floor for a vote.  Illinois already has a ban on styrofoam foodware at state facilities.
