(Springfield, IL) — Attorneys for the former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy charged in the killing of Sonya Massey last year want his trial to be relocated. Sean Grayson’s lawyers filed a motion saying they don’t believe he can get a fair trial in Sangamon County due to multiple factors, including extensive media coverage of the case. Grayson is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of the 36-year-old Black woman last July inside her home in an unincorporated neighborhood of Springfield.
