(Springfield, IL) — The U.S. Department of Justice is reaching an agreement with the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office to resolve an investigation that was launched after the deadly shooting of Sonya Massey. The DOJ looked into allegations of discriminatory practices by police and dispatching services. The department didn’t find an evidence of discrimination but worked with the county to develop measures that address concerns and improve community relations. Former Sangamon County Deputy Sean Grayson is charged with murder in the July deadly shooting of Massey in an unincorporated neighborhood of Springfield.
