Rodger Leland Opfer, age 82, of Shobonier, Illinois passed away at 8:50 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024 in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shobonier Illinois with a two-hour visitation until time of service. David R. Speers will be officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Shobonier, Illinois, with Military Graveside Rites. Rodger was born on October 14, 1942, in Wilberton Township, Illinois, the son of Carl and Erna (Wollin) Opfer. He married Margaret Braden on October 15, 1967 at Grace Lutheran Church in Strasburg. They were married for 57 years. Rodger was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shobonier, Illinois. He was a dairy farmer and farmer his entire life. He was a Dodgers fan and enjoyed the Indy car races. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; daughter, Melanie (Lawrence) Beville; son, Nathan and family; grandchildren, Alexander, Jacqueline and Andrew; many cousins, brothers and sisters- in- law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Erna Opfer; sister Velva and brother-in-law Norman Hofmann.
