Several Illinois laws taking effect January 1st place demands on Illinois schools.
State Senator Rachel Ventura sponsored a bill requiring school districts to provide students with at least 20 minutes a week of relaxation activities in addition to recess.
State Senator Steve McClure said the legislation was unnecessary and limits what schools can do.
Other new laws include a ban on corporal punishment in elementary and secondary schools and required emergency equipment and information. 293 new Illinois laws are scheduled to take effect on New Year’s Day.
