Tommy “Joe” Leidner, 80, of Vandalia, IL, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024 at his daughter’s residence.
Per Joe’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 22, 2024 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia, with Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia, IL & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 AM, Friday, November 22, 2024, at the funeral home. Tommy Joe Leidner was born on October 23, 1944, in Vandalia, IL, the son of Elvin and Katherine (Summers) Leidner. He married the love of his life, Linda Lou Depew on May 18, 1963. Together, they had three children and celebrated 50 years of marriage before her passing on October 19, 2013.
Joe was a proud United States Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War. Following his service, he began his career at Crane Packing in Vandalia; where he retired after 40 years. During his employment, Joe was involved in many company recreational activities including a softball league, golf team, and a bowling league in which he earned several trophies. Joe loved hunting, fishing, and watching Westerns on the Grit channel. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia.
Joe will forever be remembered by his daughters, Lisa and husband Terry Robbins of Vandalia and Lori and husband Darrel Richards of Pocahontas; son, Tony Leidner and wife Jennie of Vandalia; grandchildren, Taylor and husband Mike West, Matthew Oldham, Morgan and husband Kevin Pape, Ashlen Richards, Emmily Leidner, Ashley Leidner, and Logan Oldham; great-grandchildren, Enzo West, Landon West, and Sawyer Pape; numerous cousins, and other family and friends.
Mr. Leidner was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
