An invasive species expert is calling on the public to help slow the spread of intruders in Illinois. Chris Evans is a Forestry and Research Specialist with Illinois Extension based in Southern Illinois. He says invasive species come in the form of plants, pests, or animals and can harm the environment, just as the Emerald Ash Borer has.
University of Illinois Extension staff have been monitoring the spread and impact of the invasive Emerald Ash Borer since it first arrived in the state in 2006. Evans says the public can help by reporting invasive species by using a tool called iNaturalist.
Evans says another pest discovered in Illinois last year that is raising concerns is the Spotted Lanternfly.
