A measure to direct the Illinois State Board of Education to look into universal mental health screenings in schools is headed to the Governor. If signed by Governor Pritzker, ISBE will be asked to issue a report to the Governor and the General Assembly on school district readiness and plan for a phased approach to universal mental health screening of students. State Representative Tom Weber says parental rights are being ignored in the legislation.
The measure, which passed by an 80 to 31 vote, does not include an opt-out for school districts.
