The Illinois State Police handled a 3 vehicle fatal accident on U.S. Route 40 in Effingham County on Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred at 2:45 pm on Monday. Illinois State Police Troop 9 Units responded to the accident. Report say Unit 1 was traveling south on N. 450th Street, approaching U.S. Route 40. Unit 2 was traveling east on Route 40 approaching 450th Street. Unit 2 was traveling west at the same location. State Police say that all 3 units crashed at the U.S. Route 40 intersection. The unit one driver—that State Police say is a 54 year old male from Brownstown—reported no injuries on the scene. The Unit 2 driver—a 34 year old male from Altamont—was transported to the hospital with injuries. And, State Police say the Unit 3 driver—44 year old Michelle Miller of St. Elmo—was transported to a local hospital but did not survive. State Police say the roadway was closed during the crash investigation and reopened at about 6:40 pm. State Police say the Unit 1 driver was cited for Disobeying a Stop Sign. The crash investigation is active and no further information is available.
The Effingham County Coroner’s Office says that 44 year old Michelle Miller from St. Elmo passed away at the ER at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham at 3:44 pm due to injuries suffered in the crash.
