Candidates eyeing ballot access feel cheated after Illinois Democrats in less than 2 days approved and enacted legislation ending the slating of candidates for Illinois General Assembly for the November Election if they didn’t run in the March Primary.
Governor J.B. Pritzker signed Senate Bill 2412 on Friday morning, less than 2 days after it was approved by the House and Senate. Democrats argued no one was officially slated, so there’s no harm. However, Juvandy Rivera was eyeing being slated as a Republican for the 3rd House District.
Leslie Collazo was eyeing to be salted as a Republican for the 8th House District. As first she was shocked, but then felt the lack of transparency was not surprising as Democrats pulled the rug.
The Illinois State Board of Election said they will continue to accept slating petitions up to the original June 3rd deadline and await the objection process and any litigation that follows.
