Two California men are facing multiple drug charges in Fayette County Court.
29 year old Jiajie Zhao has been charged with Unlawful Cannabis Trafficking of 5,000 or more grams of cannabis (Class X Felony), Possession with Intent Deliver over 5,000 grams of cannabis (Class X Felony), and Possession of over 5,000 grams of cannabis (Class 1 Felony).
Zhao appeared in Fayette County Court with public defender and Zhao advised the court he speaks English. A hearing was held on the state’s motion to deny pretrial release. The court found that the state has met its burden as to the dangerousness and willful flight. A status hearing is now set for Tuesday, April 16th at 9 am.
30 year old Chun Wang Wong has been charged with Unlawful Cannabis Trafficking of 5,000 or more grams of cannabis (Class X Felony), Possession with Intent Deliver over 5,000 grams of cannabis (Class X Felony), Unlawful Possession of over 5,000 grams of cannabis (Class 1 Felony) and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony).
Wong appeared in Fayette County Court with a public defender. Although Wong advised he speaks English, it was determined he needs a Mandarin interpreter. A hearing was held on the state’s motion to deny pretrial release. The court found the state had met it’s burden. However, the court finds that pretrial conditions are appropriate and the defendant shall not leave the country and surrender his passport. It also says the defendant will be fitted with a GPS unit and comply to conditions and shall not possess or consume any drugs or alcohol, be subject to testing when he is in Illinois and possess no firearms or other dangerous weapons. Wong is set for a preliminary hearing and status hearing on May 28th.
