(Springfield, IL) — Illinois lawmakers considering a proposal to create a new state agency focused on early childhood needs are questioning its cost. Governor J.B. Pritzker wants 13-million dollars to create the Department of Early Childhood but at a hearing last week Democratic State Representative Sue Scherer worried it may cost much more. The governor wants to combine early childhood programs from various state agencies under one roof. He asked for the move as part of his new state budget.
