City of Vandalia to be part of a project to try and stretch bike path across the state

The City of Vandalia will be part of a project to try and stretch a bike path across the state of Illinois.  Mayor Rick Gottman updated the City Council on a recent meeting with Madison County Transit.

Mayor Gottman said they would look to have the path go along the National Road, or U.S. Route 40.  He said one potential hurdle will be in the Pocahantus-Pierron area where Route 40 ends for several miles.  The original thought with the plan to connect the Madison County trail to Springfield, but now it is to connect Missouri to Indiana.
