The Altamont Lady Indians pushed their win streak to ten games after going 2-0 on Thursday to wrap up pool play at the Robinson Holidaze Hoopla Tournament and earn themselves a spot in Friday’s Championship game.
Altamont got a resounding 73-32 win over Terre Haute South Vigo in the first game of their double day. The Indians imposed their will early on the Braves, rushing out to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter as Grace Nelson poured in 13 points in the period and Peyton Osteen added another five points. THS would work some offense together in the second quarter for 15 points, but Altamont put another 21 points on the board to push their lead to 43-21 at halftime. A nine point quarter for Nelson and five points from Sophia Pearcy in the third lead a 21-7 run for the Indians to put the game out of reach at 64-38 at the end of the third as the Indians would outscore THS 9-4 in the fourth to close out the 73-32 win.
In their second game of the day, the Indians faced their first true test of the tournament against Farmersburg North Central and snagged a 3-point win. After a tight affair throughout the first quarter, Altamont held just a slim 16-15 lead at the end of the quarter with Skylie Klein coming off the bench to hit two 3-pointers in the period to help spark the offense. North Central would pull ahead by three after outscoring the Indians 16-12 in the second quarter despite eight points from Nelson, as Altamont trailed 31-28 at halftime. As the two teams played almost even in the third quarter, North Central slightly outscored the Indians 13-12 to edge their lead to four points, 44-40, at the end of the third quarter. Altamont would turn things up offensively in the fourth quarter and a 16-9 run including eight points from Nelson and a big three from Brianna Grunloh would bring Altamont back for a close three point win, 56-53, to finish pool play at 3-0 and punch their ticket to the Championship game.
