Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City girls basketball kicks off their 2023-2024 campaign on Monday on the road at South Central and the Bobcats return three starters from their 21-11 season last year.
CHBC will be without two key players due to graduation in Gracie Heckert who led the team in points, assists and steals per game and Madison Wojcik who led the team in rebounds per game and had numerous double-doubles during the 2022-23 season. This year’s squad will be led by three returning starters in seniors Ruby Stuckemeyer and Marissa Summers and junior Macee Rodman. Stuckemeyer, a forward, led last year’s team in blocks with 36 on the season and was third in rebounds per game while Rodman, a shooting guard, was second on the team in points per game with 13.6 and Summers, a point/shooting guard, was second on the team in assists per game. The returning starters will be joined by seniors Koda Colman, Shae Nohren, Karlee Smith as returning varsity players from last year’s team that recorded their second consecutive 20 plus win season and would go 7-2 in the National Trail Conference and 3-0 in the Egyptian Illini Conference. They secured a Regional quarterfinal win over Martinsville 71-21 and a regional semifinal win over Cumberland 53-44 before falling to Neoga, 60-36, in the Regional Championship game.
CHBC will get this year’s season underway on the road Monday, November 13 at South Central in National Trail Conference action and stay on the road later in the week when they play at Central A&M on Thursday, November 16. After the first week, CHBC has a very friendly home schedule for the few weeks hosting their own Thanksgiving Tournament and then hosting games against Pana, Martinsville, Shelbyville, Decatur St. Teresa and St. Anthony. Aside from their own home tournament, the Bobcats will have the NTC Tournament and the NTC/CIC Shootout that they will play in again this season.
