The work on the potential new OKAW building is continuing.
At their meeting on Thursday, the Vandalia School District hired Akra Builders as their project manager for the OKAW project. Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Garrison says the construction manager will do the more detailed design work they need to be more competitive as they continue their quest to secure state and federal funds for the new area career center. Dr. Garrison adds that the Vandalia School District, the 13 OKAW districts, the Fayette County Board and the City of Vandalia continue to their partnership on the project.
The City of Vandalia has agreed to supply the property at the west interchange for the project while the Fayette County Board has agreed to pay for the engineering for the project. This new project would allow for a larger Vocational Center than the current facility and also allow for the expansion of more vocational programs going forward. The potential new vocational center would be located on a 15 acre spot in the southeastern corner of the 120 acres of land the city owns at the west interchange.
