Vandalia senior golfer Conner McCall has taken 5th place at the IHSA 1A State Golf Tournament held at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington. McCall shot a one under par 71 during Round 2 on Saturday which combined with his 5 over 77 from Friday’s Round 1 put him at a final score of 4 over par 148 for the tournament, good enough for sole possession of 5th place. Thomas Hereau of River Ridge claimed the top spot with a score of 1 under 143 while there would be a 3-way tie for 2nd place between Beau Eftink of Quincy Notre Dame, Liam Lodding of Harvest Christian Academy and Trey Boecker of Grant Park, all shooting a 1 over 145. McCall’s 5th place finish marks the second Top 5 finish in the last three years for McCall as he finished in 4th place as a sophomore in 2021 which aided the Vandals in claiming their first 1A Golf State Championship and then he finished in 16th place last year as a junior. McCall wraps up his successful high school golf career but will continue his game at the collegiate level as he will be attending Division 1 Northern Illinois University to play golf for the Huskies.
