Vandalia senior golfer Conner McCall finished the first round of the IHSA 1A State Golf Tournament at 5 over par, shooting a 77on Friday at Prairie Vista Golf Course. After going one over on the front nine, McCall shot par on the first two holes of the back nine before a tough double bogey on the 12th hole. After shooting par on the 13th, a tough triple bogey on the 14th had McCall at 6 over par. He would bounce back with a par on the 15th, would birdie the 16th and then shot par on the 17th and 18th holes to end at 5 over par. McCall’s score was good enough to be one of the 40 individual golfers not on an advancing team to move on to the second round today. After beginning on the first hole Friday, McCall will again begin play today on Hole 1, schedule to tee off at 10:27am, and will be in a threesome that will include Parker Renken of Nashville and Wilson Kirby of St. Thomas More.
We will have updates here on I70Sports.com on McCall’s progress on Saturday during the second round.
