Kaskaskia College discussed new offerings and enrollment at their Community Engagement Meeting at the Vandalia Campus on Tuesday.
Kaskaskia College President George Evans says the COVID-19 pandemic made it clear that employers are looking to hire folks now.
Among the new offerings are certificate programs for Advanced HVAC, Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Technology and Early Childhood Small Business. They are also offering microcertificates in Word and Excell. And, a new Associates of Fine Arts Theater.
As for enrollment, Evans says they have rebounded from the pandemic. And, they are now looking to get back to pre-pandemic levels. For the spring semester, K-C was up 4% from the previous year in credit hours and 2% in head count. They have been down this summer, but Evans says that was expected because of the end of the Cares Act grant. But, he says for Fall pre-enrollment they are currently up 5.4% in credit hour enrollment and 8% up in head count enrollment from the same time last year.
