A St. Elmo man is facing multiple charges in Federal court for an alleged shooting incident in October of 2022 in Fayette County.
In a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of Illinois it states that a federal grand jury returned a 15 count indictment charging 45 year old Dax Baldrige on several assault and firearms charges after he allegedly opened fire on federal law enforcement agents who attempted to serve an arrest warrant at his residence in Fayette County back in October of 2022. Baldrige is facing 7 counts of Assault of a Federal Officer, 7 counts of Using a Firearm In During and In Relation to a Crime of Violence and 1 count of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
Back on October 17th of 2022, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies and the U.S. Marshal Service Great Lakes Task Force were at a residence near Wright’s Corner in rural Fayette County to serve a warrant for Failure to Appear when the suspect is alleged to have fired multiple shots at them. Illinois State Police then arrived on scene and Troopers were said to begin negotiating with the suspect to attempt a peaceful resolution. And, after a 10 hour standoff, Baldrige was arrested for a Failure to Appear Warrant. No one was injured during the October 2022 incident.
