The Altamont Indians got on the scoreboard first and set the tone early as they rode a fast start to a big 59-37 win over host Nokomis in the championship game of the Nokomis 1A Regional on Friday night. The Indians were able to flip the script early on Nokomis in what became a game that was very opposite of the two teams first meeting that resulted in just a four point win for the Indians the first time around. After getting the opening basket of the game, the Indians would get themselves out to a 6-4 lead before going on a 9-2 run in the latter half of the first quarter to take a 15-6 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Playing an up-tempo transition game and getting big shots when slowed a bit in their half-court offense, Altamont would outscore Nokomis 14-9 in the second quarter to take a double digit lead at halftime, 29-15. After a big 4-point play early in the third quarter after Avery Jahraus would hit a three from near the left corner, be fouled on the shot and make the ensuing free throw, Nokomis and Altamont would trade baskets for the majority of the third quarter, but Altamont would have a two-point advantage in the quarter push their lead to 42-26 heading into the fourth quarter. The Indians continued to push in the fourth quarter, going on a 17-11 run to move on and close out the 59-37 win. A trio of seniors would come up big in the game for Altamont as Jahraus would hit eight 3-pointers in the game to finish with 25 points, Mason Robinson would score 6 points in three different quarters to tally 20 points in the game and Eric Kollman would also score in double digits with 10 points in the game. Altamont now stands at 28-4 on the season and will get to return to their home floor for at least one more game as they will play Casey-Westfield in the first semifinal game of the Altamont 1A Sectional on Tuesday night at 7:00pm. The winner of that game would then face the winner of the second semifinal game that will be played between Tuscola and St. Anthony on Wednesday night. The Altamont 1A Sectional Championship game will be Friday, March 3 at 7:00pm.
