The South Central Lady Cougars had to withstand a strong fourth quarter charge, but held on to beat Sandoval, 52-46, for their Senior Night on Thursday. Prior to the game, seniors Jaylyn Michel and Brooklyn Garrett were honored. To begin the game, the Lady Cougars would find themselves down early 9-2, and would have to rally for a 13-5 tun to hold a very slim 15-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. South Central would get a bit of breathing room in the second quarter, outscoring Sandoval 17-10 to pull ahead 32-24 at halftime. After the break, Sandoval would begin to chip away at the Cougar lead, outscoring South Central 11-8 to pull within five points, 40-35, at the end of the third. The fourth quarter would be a battle, as the Blackhawks would close it to as little as just one point, 45-44, before the Cougars got back to a two possession lead and then closed the game out with a pair of free throws for the 52-46 win. South Central wraps up regular season play at 14-16. They begin postseason play on Saturday as they will host Dieterich in Regional Quarterfinal action at 6:00pm.
