
Lela M. Lewis, 96, of Vandalia, IL passed away at 12:45 AM, Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 04, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia with Pastor Timothy Landskroener officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Vera. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 AM, at the church. Lela Melvina Ward was born on September 09, 1926 in Tower Hill, IL, the daughter of Lloyd and Ada (Meyer) Ward. She married Harry J. Lewis on November 23, 1944; together they celebrated 73 years of marriage before his passing on December 18, 2017.
Lela was a custodian at Holy Cross Lutheran Church for several years; where she was a devout member, and cleaned many homes in the area. She enjoyed playing the piano, organ and violin. Lela also had an avid love for cooking, flowers, and her dogs.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by her son, Harry Lewis Jr. of Acton, Maine; daughter, Mary and husband James Cramer of Mt. Vernon; son, Lloyd Lewis and wife Deborah of Greenville; sister, Livona Eagan of Mahomet; sister, Loretta McKeighen of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, James Lewis, Lisa and husband David Allis, Jason Lewis and wife Sheila, John Cramer and friend Michelle, Dennis Cramer and wife Sherri, Tim Lewis and wife Bess, Mark Lewis and wife Rachel, Sarah and husband Neil Vanderkwaak; 21 great-grandchildren & 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Leila, Leonard, Lorene, and Lloyd.
