The Vandalia High School cheerleading squad has punched its ticket to the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association State Championships. The Vandals competed at the ICCA’s Mt. Vernon Invitational on Sunday in the small varsity team division, bringing home the second place hardware after finishing behind first place DuQuoin. More importantly than their final placing though, the Vandals earned the needed qualifying score to advance on to the ICCA State Championships. With teams able to compete in more than one invitational competition and up to six ICCA or IHSA meets during the competitive season (not including the IHSA State Series), the Vandals will continue to fine tune their routine by next competing in the Pinckneyville Invitational on Sunday, December 11. They will then compete in the ICCA State Championships being held at the Bank of Springfield Center on January 21 and 22.
