South Central has suffered back to back losses for the first time this season, coming up just short in a pitcher’s duel and falling to St. Anthony 1-0 on Tuesday in National Trail Conference baseball action. The Cougars and Bulldogs held each scoreless across the first five and a half innings as South Central’s Aidan Dodson gave up just one hit in those first five frames worked. The Cougars got a man into scoring position in both the first and second innings before they were stranded to end the inning. Then in the top of the 5th, it looked like South Central was challenging, loading the bases with two outs after back to back singles from Colton Smith and Chase Thompson were followed up by Dodson drawing a walk, but all three were stranded on a pop out to second base. St. Anthony would strike in the bottom of the 6th with a leadoff single followed by a walk and then a sacrifice fly to notch their first run and take a 1-0 lead. A pop out and a ground out would end the inning and keep the Bulldogs lead at 1-0. The Cougars again threatened in the 7th starting a two-out rally with back to back singles again from Colton Smith and Thompson followed by a single from Dodson to load the bases. But a pop out would end the threat as South Central would suffer the slim 1-0 loss. South Central is now 9-3 overall on the season and moves to 5-1 in the NTC with two conference games remaining with the first of the two coming up on Friday night at Altamont.
