The Vandalia City Council has approved 60% in TIF funds for the cost of a brand new location for Beauty Mark Salon on the site of the former Depot in downtown Vandalia.
Beauty Mark owner Sarah Hill addresses the Vandalia City Council and asked for the 60% in TIF funds to help fund the new building at 107 S. 6th Street and relocate from her current location at 925 New York Drive. Hill stated she wants to keep the walls that are still up and to try and keep the original look of the site, which has now sat without a business for 11 years. Hill also talked about the benefit her business could bring downtown, as she says they had nearly 15,000 guests come into their business in 2021.
Hill says she has 17 employees currently and would hope to add more services and add 5 to 10 more employees. Several Aldermen spoke in favor of the project. But, Alderman Andy Lester said he did want to see more of the original appearance, especially in regards to the roof.
The Vandalia City Council voted 7 to 1 to give 60% of the cost of the project, with only Alderman Bret Brosman voting no. Brosman said he could support the project for 25% of the project’s cost in TIF funds, but not at 60%. Meanwhile, following the meeting, Hill talks about why she wants to locate in the former Depot location.
And, she says they will now get busy with trying to reach their timeline to be in the new location.
The low estimate that Hill has for the project is $754,000, which means the maximum the City would pay out in TIF funds would be $452,400.
