Bernice H. Walton, 93, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, at Fayette County Hospital, LTC in Vandalia, IL.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia, IL with Pastor Michael Mohr officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 1 hour prior to the service at the church. She was born January 25, 1928, in Wilberton Twp., IL, the daughter of William E. & Mary (Sachan) Meyer. Married John Winston Walton on December 20, 1947, Vandalia, IL, he passed away June 12, 2002. She worked for Johnson, Stephen, Shinkle Shoe Factory and VCHS cafeteria cook both in Vandalia; homemaker; member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and former member of Vandalia American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by: Son – Tom Walton & Terri, Houston, TX; Daughter – Donna Johnson & Harold, Vandalia, IL, Mary Ashbaker & Chris, Ocean Springs, MS, and Cheryl Hammond & Kent, Springfield, IL; 10 Grandchildren – Kent Hammond & Season, John Hammond & Colleen, Michelle Kelly & Marc, Kari Hagy & Jason, Lisa Merriman & Steve, David Johnson & Pam, Sara Gammill & Chris, Tom Ashbaker & Rachel, Nick Walton and Zach Walton; and 18 Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Her Parents; Husband; and Brothers – Elmer, Willard & LeRoy Meyer.
