As was expected after the Vandalia School Board’s decision at a special meeting last week, the Vandalia School District will be placed on probation today for not following the Governor’s mask mandate and instead coming up with their own mitigation plan. Speaking at the Vandalia School Board meeting on Monday evening, Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Garrison informed the board the letter would be arriving today.
And, Dr. Garrison explains the probation and the next steps.
In a letter from State Superintendent of Education Dr. Carmen Ayala send out to school districts last week it says that failure to address would lead to “nonrecognition, meaning total loss of access to state funding and loss of the school’s ability to engage in any IHSA and IESA athletic competitions.” But, Dr. Garrison points out they are a long way from that.
And, Vandalia School Board Member Kevin Satterthwaite says he agrees they are staying the course for now and will make changes as they are needed.
The Vandalia School Board last week adopted a 3 Layer Mitigation plan that has masking optional in the Minimal Transmission and then would be all masking under Substantial Transmission.
