Sidewalk work is currently ongoing and more is coming in Vandalia.
Currently, the sidewalks being put in are part of the Safe Routes to Schools project. Those sidewalks will connect the Kaskaskia College-Vandalia campus to Vandalia Elementary School.
City Administrator LaTisha Paslay says the ITEP grant project will bring more sidewalks to the community. That project will connect the one at Kaskaskia College, go out to Veteran’s Avenue, go along Veteran’s to Randolph Street. Then, continue to Coles Street, then to Main Street, then to 8th Street near McCarty’s Auto Body. It will also include a sidewalk on Sunset Drive from Randolph Street to Fillmore Street, which then connects back to the Safe Routes to Schools sidewalk.
While the Safe Routes project is currently ongoing, the ITEP grant project is awaiting I-DOT approval at this time.
