(Springfield, IL) — A trial date is set for the former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy charged in the killing of Sonya Massey last year. A judge announced yesterday that Sean Grayson’s trial will start on October 20th. Grayson is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of the 36-year-old Black woman last July inside her home in an unincorporated neighborhood of Springfield. The trial was moved to Peoria County Grayson’s lawyers filed a motion saying they don’t believe he can get a fair trial in Sangamon County.
