
The longest serving Mayor in the City of Vandalia has presided over his final meeting.
On Monday, prior to the Vandalia City Council meeting, a reception was held for Mayor Gottman and a large crowd came out to honor the outgoing Mayor, who did not run for re-election after serving 6 terms in office. Among those on hand for the reception was State Representative Blaine Wilhour, who talked about his work with the Mayor over the years.
Audio PlayerState Senator Jason Plummer issued a proclamation honoring Mayor Gottman for his service. During the meeting on Monday night, Fairview Heights Mayor Mark Kupsky and Illinois Municipal League Executive Director Brad Cole were on hand and Kupsky presented a proclamation to Mayor Gottman.
Audio PlayerDuring the Mayor’s report, Mayor Gottman said that he was very thankful to the voters for re-electing him to six terms in office. And, he also told about some different happenings during his time as Mayor—including one about the Wal-Mart Supercenter and expansion at the west interchange early in his time as Mayor.
