Illinois livestock farmers will be able to better protect their property from black vultures. Black vultures are known to prey on young livestock and birthing mothers, causing significant injuries and even death. Tasha Bunting is the Director of Commodity Programs and Farm Systems with the Illinois Farm Bureau.
Audio PlayerBuntings says the Illinois Farm Bureau recently secured statewide black vulture depredation permits through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service effective through December 31st.
Audio PlayerAs migratory birds, black vultures are protected by the Migratory Bird Treat Act. Therefore, they can’t be killed or destroyed without a migratory bird depredation permit.
