Fayette Co Board Chairman discussing the 1% sales tax failure, going forward

Fayette County voters rejected a 1% sales tax earlier this month that would have been used to pay for a new Courthouse and Jail.  And, the Fayette County Board Chairman says they may end up voting on it again.  Board Chairman Jacob Harris says the matter could come back up again in 2027.

But, Harris says that decision has certainly not been made at this time and would be up to the County Board that will likely have new leadership and new faces after the 2026 Election.

Voters in Fayette County rejected the 1% sales tax increase with 867 voting Yes and 2,461 voting No in the April 1st Consolidated Election.
