The Illinois State Police has released more information on the fatal accident that occurred this morning on Interstate 57 in Fayette County.
Illinois State Police reports say the accident happened at about 1:25 this morning on Interstate 57 at milepost 139 near Farina. State Police say they responded to a two vehicle fatal crash involving a truck-tractor semi-trailer as traffic was stopped due to a previous crash of a rolled over truck-tractor semi-trailer that blocked both lanes of traffic. State Police say that unit 2–a truck-tractor semi-trailer–was stopped in the left lane. Unit 1, a passenger car, struck the rear of unit 2. The driver of unit 1 was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of unit 2 reported no injuries on scene.
Southbound traffic was diverted at milepost 145 in Edgewood to Illinois Route 37. All lanes re-opened at about 9:15 this morning.
