Although the storms were moving at a very rapid pace, storms moved through the area for well over an hour on Wednesday evening.
The severe storms in Fayette County led to multiple Tornado Warnings and one Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the entire county. Although there did not appear to be as much hail in this round of storms, winds of 60 miles per hour or better with very heavy rains made their way through. As for tornadoes, one was spotted in Greenville that led to one of Fayette County’s Tornado Warnings. There were no reported spottings in Fayette County, but multiple storm cells that were capable of producing a tornado. The storms were moving up to 80 miles per hour. But, with such a large storm track and with such long lines of thunderstorms, the storms lasted for well over an hour before finally exiting the area. The extent of damage in Fayette County is not really known at this time, as daylight today should bring some better idea of the amount of damage.
