It is Election Day.
Voters throughout the State of Illinois are casting ballots today for this Consolidated Election. Voters throughout Fayette County are being asked to decide whether or not they are will vote for a 1% increase in sales tax over the next 35 years to pay for a new Fayette County Courthouse and Jail.
There are several contested races for the City of Vandalia. The City of Vandalia will be electing its first new Mayor in more than 2 decades today. Doug Knebel and Bobby Pate, Junior are running for Vandalia Mayor with the winner to replace current Mayor Rick Gottman, who chose not to run and his completing his 6th term as Vandalia Mayor. In Ward Two, Alderman Kenny Lewey is challenged by Amber Daulbaugh. In Ward Three, Alderman Mike Hobler is challenged by Charles “Chuck” Fitch and in Ward Four, Alderman Andy Lester is challenged by Jeremy Curll.
The City of St. Elmo has a contested race for Mayor as Incumbent Kim Baron is running for another term and is challenged by Roy Evans, Junior. For St. Elmo City Clerk, Loretta “Letty” Cameron is running against Emily Noll for the seat.
For Vandalia School Board, there is a contested race today. Incumbents Joe Lawson, John Campbell, Kevin Satterthwaite and Therese Tate are all running for re-election and challenger Aaron Janssen is also running. The top four will take the 4 open seats.
