The Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers took advantage of wild pitches in the bottom of the seventh, and used that to their advantage, getting a 5-4 win over Okaw Valley on Friday. The Timberwolves scored two runs in the first, but the Bombers would respond in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Lucas Powell to make it a 2-1 game. Okaw Valley would quickly get that run back however, pushing their lead back to 2. BSE would chip away at the deficit once again as Powell would have another RBI single to make the score 3-2. The Bombers would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth, with Dodge Willms getting a two out triple to score Calin Chandler, and a Lane Stine single, to make it a 4-3 ballgame. The lead would be short lived however, as Okaw Valley would score on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 4. The game would remain scoreless going into the bottom of the seventh, when Corey Hoopingarner reached on a one-out single. Calvin Voelker would come in to courtesy run, and would reach second on a balk. A wild pitch would advance Voelker to third, and a passed ball would lead to Voelker coming to score the winning run, giving BSE the 5-4 win. BSE improves to 3-2 on the season. The Bombers will be on the road Tuesday to take on Neoga.
