Measure advancing in Springfield would ensure migrant children have access to Illinois schools safe from ICE

Federal immigration officials would have a hurdle from going into schools to enforce the law with a bill advancing at the Illinois Statehouse.

Earlier this month in a House committee, State Representative Blaine Wilhour asked how House Bill 3247 would impact the ability for ICE to enter a school to serve a detention order against an 18 year old illegal immigrant.

Fred Tsao with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights said ICE could still enforce that, just not in the school.

The measure is expected to be amended and is being held on second reading.
