Evelyn M. Bennett, 86, of Vandalia, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Haven of St. Elmo.
Per Evelyn’s wishes, cremation rites will take place. A Graveside Service & Interment will be held for both, Evelyn and her husband, Grover at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 28, 2025 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia with Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Evelyn Marie Daniels was born on August 31, 1938 in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of Fred Thomas and Isabell (Engle) Daniels. She married the love of her life, Grover Bennett Jr. on September 08, 1957. Together, they had one daughter and celebrated 65 years of marriage before his passing on June 13, 2023.
Throughout the years, Evelyn worked various jobs in the area. She was employed at a factory, greenhouse, grocery store, and was even a care giver. Evelyn was very crafty and she loved quilting, crocheting, gardening, and traveling with her husband, especially to Mexico. She was also a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Vandalia.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her daughter, Teresa Carpenter of Altamont; granddaughter, Katelyn and husband Cody Ennen of Vandalia; great-granddaughter, Koda Ennen of Vandalia; brother, Jim Daniels and wife, Lavonna of Keyesport; sister, Phyllis Gable of Vandalia; and sister, Sherry Clymer of Vandalia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Steve Carpenter; brother, Bob Brule and wife Doris; brother, Mike Engle and wife Kitty; sister, Shirley and husband Glenn Doehring; brother-in-law, Jerry Gable; and brother-in-law, Carl Clymer.
