Vandalia School Board Taps Clay to Be New VCHS Principal Beginning with 2026-27 School Year

With one more school year after the current one left until current VCHS Principal Randy Protz’s retirement, the Vandalia School Board approved Protz’s successor on Thursday night, approving current Athletic Director Jason Clay to fill the position beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. Clay said this path was something that just became clear to him and he is excited to learn from Protz and prepare to move into the position.

Having moved from a student at VCHS to coming back to teach and coach before becoming AD, Clay says everything has come full circle and he is ready to continue moving the school and district forward.

With his moving into the Principal position, the board also approved teacher and coach Mark Rinehart to move into the Athletic Director Position beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.
