An 18 year old, who was charged a little over a year ago in the shooting death of a 14 year old in St. Peter has been sentenced in Fayette County Court to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
In Fayette County Court this past week, a negotiated plea was presented where Kaden A. Phillips pleaded guilty to charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Involuntary Manslaughter. Phillips was sentenced to 12 years in prison on the first count and 5 years in prison on the second count–to be served concurrently. Phillips will have to serve 85% of his sentence, which works out to 10 years, 2 months and 12 days.
Back in January of 2024, then 17 year old Phillips was charged in the shooting death of a 14 year old in St. Peter. At the time, Phillips was charged as an adult and charged with Fire Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
