It is confirmed, a tornado did touch down in Fayette County in the severe storms that rolled through on Friday night.
Fayette County Emergency Management Agency Director Rachel Denning and the National Weather Service surveyed damage in Fayette County on Tuesday and have confirmed the county did see a tornado. Denning reports the tornado was an EF1 with maximum wind speed of 90 miles per hour. The tornado traveled a total of 13 miles and 400 yards wide. As for the path of the tornado, it started southwest of Hagarstown and then traveled northeast from there, skirting the west, north and northwest edges of Vandalia and continued northeast before stopping just southwest of Sefton.
Along with a tornado, the area was hit hard with large hail and very strong winds on Friday night–which led to home and roof damage throughout the area.
