The Mulberry Grove Fire Protection District battled a hay shed fire on Wednesday, with the Vandalia Fire Department among the area departments providing assistance.
The Mulberry Grove Fire Protection District was dispatched at about 11:30 on Wednesday to a hay shed fire on North 100 outside of Mulberry Grove in Fayette County. Reports say that livestock were possibly involved and multiple nearby structures were at risk. Upon arriving on the scene, the Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from an already collapsed tin shed full of hay. Firefighters immediately focused on protecting the adjacent structures and the large quantities of burning hay The cause of the fire is not known at this time but is not considered suspicious.
About 25 Firefighters responded to the scene and worked for about 3 hours to contain and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.
As for mutual assistance, automatic aid came at the time of the call from the Greenville and Keyesport Fire Protection Districts. The Vandalia Fire Department, Smithboro Fire Protection District and Shoal Creek Fire Protection District provided assistance as well. Fillmore, Pocahontas-Old Ripley and Highland-Pierron were on standby. Rural Med EMS of Bond County also responded to the scene.
