The committee that has met a few times recently to work towards securing a contract for ambulance service in Fayette County is dissolving and a new committee will take up the work.
At the February meeting of the Fayette County Board, the matter of the ambulance service was referred off to Committee 4 of the County Board. County Board member Ashley Towler is the Chairperson of that committee. She says they had one meeting with just some preliminary discussion on the matter.
City of Vandalia Alderman Bret Brosman echoed the sentiments of many on hand with his comments.
At Monday’s committee meeting, there was discussion on several matters, including potential compensation for an ambulance company, talk of how mutual aid is handled, percentage of calls that are collected on and other topics. But, two things were pretty well decided on—-One was the county would probably be the best place for the contract to be handled, and two that most of the questions being discussed would have to be answered as the committee came up with the Request for Proposal. It was stated that this would more than likely lead to needing to take bids from other interested ambulance services. Rural Med EMS has been handling ambulance services for Fayette County for quite some time, but has done so without any type of contract.
The new committee that will work on the issue will be Committee 4 of the Fayette County Board and they will be joined by all the Police Chiefs in Fayette County, the Sheriff and Emergency Management Agency Director. The Police Chiefs would then report back to the municipalities with updates on the matter.
