The Vandalia City Council had a somewhat uneventful meeting on Tuesday evening.
Four Aldermen were absent from the meeting. So, with just four Aldermen on hand for the meeting no votes could taken as they did not have a quorum. Mayor Rick Gottman said he would take executive action to make sure the bills were paid, but other items will be pushed back and see action at the March 3rd Vandalia City Council meeting.
One topic that came up was about the City’s process for bid openings. Currently, the city will have a day when bids have to be submitted for items or projects but then the bids are not opened until the next City Council meeting. Alderman Bob Bowen says he thinks that slows up the process.
Bowen suggested opening the bids at the time they are due and then bringing the results to the City Council. Mayor Gottman said that was the process in the past and he would usually have two other people with him to open the bids. Mayor Gottman says there will be an ordinance for the council to vote on for that change at their next meeting.
